Dec. 12, 2025 – Vayeshev

Happy Hanukkah

The festival of lights begins at sundown Sunday. Here at Temple Adath Israel, we have a terrific lineup of events and programs (weather permitting). Vodka Latke, a celebration of food and fun, is tomorrow night at 6. Our annual Hanukkah Carnival, presented by the Social Action Committee, starts Sunday immediately after Religious School. Shabbat services for Friday Dec.19, will include Hannukah music from Shir Adat and a Torah commentary from Sarah Lowe. Please note that Jewish Federation of the Bluegrass has canceled the community menorah lighting at Triangle Park on Sunday evening because of the expected low temperatures.

May this Shabbat before Hannukah inspire us to bring the light of the day of rest into our eight-day festival of remembrance. May Shabbat joy carry over into Hannukah happiness. And may Shabbat sanctity gracefully transition us into Hannukah holiness.

Thank you to Aviva and Lew Bowling and Gabe Robitaille and our Junior Choir, Tzepurie Shir, for bringing Hannukah melodies to tonight’s service.

Shabbat Shalom and Early Wishes for a Happy Hanukkah,
Rabbi David Wirtschafter
